Rem Koolhaas has always been one to scream "fire" in the crowded theatre of architecture. His provocations are usually interesting and this one is no different. Personally I think the issue is more complex in the new cities of the sunbelt, which tend to be history-starved. That said, the impulse that everything old is worth preserving by default is due some serious scrutiny. The New Museum in NYC is a perfect venue for this discussion.
